Interactive Whiteboard

An ICT tool that is interesting for teacher to be used in classroom nowadays is interactive whiteboard. An interactive whiteboard is a large, touch-sensitive board which allows teachers and students to participate interactively in activities that are projected onto it by using a projector that connected to a computer. Hence, we can say that an interactive whiteboard consists of a computer, a data projector and a touch-sensitive whiteboard.

The board’s surface acts like the computer’s desktop where the teacher and students can control the computer directly using either a pen, finger or other gadgets. Actually, some of you may wonder, what is the advantage of using such a board in classroom? If we compared the normal traditional black or white board, interactive whiteboard has the advantages for superior presentation opportunities, and it can help the teacher in it’s’ readily availability of teaching materials.

Teachers can develop interactive whiteboard multimedia presentations or use the ready-made presentations for the class. Interactive whiteboards help the teacher to explain process or other change in an illustration way so that the students can be clearer about the content being taught by the teacher.

In the traditional way where black/white board or simple projector methods, the students need to jot down the exercises shown in their exercise book before proceed to solve it and present to the whole class. This is actually time consuming as the teaching lesson will be delay. However, with the help of interactive whiteboard, the students can interact directly with the exercise shown and present it to the class in short time. It can increase the efficiency of the teaching and learning lesson.

Besides that, interactive whiteboard also have been proven to increase the student attention, engagement, motivation and enjoyment in the learning process. It also has increase the students learning ability as the students pay more attention to the lesson. In addition, for those students that has hearing and visual impairment also get the benefit from this whiteboard.

As a conclusion, interactive whiteboard is a very interactive and useful tool for the teacher to use in their teaching process in the classroom. For Malaysia, our education still not yet uses this tool in a large scale due to its cost. Only certain universities and education institution have this tool. However, it is believe that in future, this type of whiteboard will be used by all level of education institution as the advantages of it is better.

Simulation

Since 1980s, scientists has been using computer simulations to explore the behaviour of new aircraft designs in flight, the formation of our galaxies after the Big Bang, and other. Computer simulation has become very powerful by the 1980s that some people were actually thought that it is the three form of science that standing between the theory and experiment (Waldrop, 1992).

From Alessi and Trollip (1991, 119), two types of simulation are identified and from these two types of it, it is categorized into more categories, which are:

1.      Physical simulation
·        Offer learners the opportunities to manipulate objects or phenomena that are represented on the screen.

2.      Process simulation
·        Speed up or slow down the process that usually take very long period or happen in a fast paces so that the learners can observe it in a better view. This is because normally these types of processes are unable to be observed naturally in the real life.

3.      Procedural simulation
·        Teach the appropriate sequences of steps that used to perform in an experiment or procedures.

4.      Situational simulation
·        Present the learners with varied situations and ask them to devise action to solve the problem that occurred in the situation presented.

Simulation can be used to do a lots of things such as visualize the invisible, manipulating the variables, observe the results, draw conclusion from the result, use as a gaming approaches, facilitate role playing, involve multiple participants and lastly mimics the real world situations.

Simulation has a lot of advantages if being used in the schools for teaching and learning process. As simulation is a very interactive tool, it can attract the students’ interest and motivates them to engage in the simulation. Students can enhance their available knowledge with the experiments in simulation. Plus, students can save a lot of time when doing some activities with simulation such as doing an experiment. Thus, the students can do their experiment more efficiently and they can spare out the extra time to analyses the result and do the discussion.

Besides that, teacher does not need to worry about the safety of the students when using simulation to do some research or experiment with volatile substances or other dangerous experiment compared to doing it in the real world. Students also receive better transfer of knowledge if using simulation as they can visualize the content they are studied. If they don’t understand, then they can repeat the process again endlessly until they understand it and all the repeating process only need a very short time compared to real world procedures or experiment where the students need to set up the tools all over again.

Moreover, simulation normally better to be do in a group. This actually can instil the value of cooperation and teamwork in the students mind. Simulation also very useful as it helps to making the impossible things such as seeing the movement of ions to be the possible one. This actually can be considers the most powerful features that simulation has posses.

Hence, it is clear that simulation can help the teaching and learning process to be a better one and it is recommend that this type of ICT tool should be used in all schools in Malaysia.

My Hometown

Actually, I have thought for some time what is the suitable new video I going to make using Window Live Movie Maker. Then, an idea came out from my mind. Since my hometown is Melaka, a historical city, the I shall do a short video about my hometown. Besides completing the task given by my lecturer, I can promote my hometown  as the  tourist spot for my coursemate as the idiom "kill two birds with one stone".

This is my video with the title "My Sweet Hometown". Hope you enjoy it....:

And for those who still not familiar with the Window Live Movie Maker software (usually found in your computer or laptop), don't forget to check out the simple tutorial to make this video. Remember, it is good to discover new things.

Tutorial for Using Paint

This is a simple tutorial. So, don't waste your time and start follow the steps and decorate whatever you want...:)

First, open the PAINT.

Then, select a picture that you want to decorate by click at the 'paste from' button and search through the file where the picture is located. If you like, you can also copy an image from the internet and paste it at PAINT.

This is the picture that I had chosen. It is a beautiful abstract picture.

Next, you can select the tools and starts decorate the picture as you like. I going to put the phrase “Imagination has no boundary” in this picture using the Text tool in the toolbar.

After that, I want to decorate the sides of the picture so that it would have a frame surrounding it. Use the variety shape at the toolbar or you can draw the frame if you want. I prefer rectangular shape as my frame. If you found that it is difficult to see the full size of the picture, you can zoom out at the VIEW to make it appear smaller.

This is the view after I zoom out the picture.

You also can zoom in and out using the tool at the bottom right of the paint (red arrow)

This is the rectangular shape frame I had drawn. I pour the colour on the frame using 'Fill with color' button.

The frame look a bit dull. So, I start to decorate it using the tool that located in the toolbar. Here, this is what happen to the frame after I decorate it using different colour of lines and star shapes.

Lastly, you can put a signature at the bottom right if you like. This is the final product. Hope you have fun with PAINT and use it to decorate and design as it is a very simple software to understand. Remember: Imagination has no boundary…..^.^

Imagination has no boundary

Hello, everyone. Do you all know about Paint? I feel that this software is a very simple software that we can use to decorate our photo or picture that we want. We do not have to download it as it usually found in the computers or laptops. Using Paint is enough for simple designation and decoration. However, if you feel that you want a more advance designation software, you can try Abode Photoshop.

This the the product that I used Paint to decorate.

I have put a simple tutorial for the process of decorate this picture. You can see through the tutorial at the post "Tutorial for Using Paint".
